Overview

The 15 days classic wildlife tour in Uganda offers travelers an amazing wildlife adventure to the famous national parks and get the chance to see various wildlife such as the Big 5, zebra, giraffe, buffaloes, antelopes and many others.

The safari enables the guests to meet face to face with the gentle mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and other primates in their natural environment. The travelers will be fascinated with the rich diversity of flora and bird species found in the pearl of Africa.

Day 1: Transfer to Kidepo National park.

Detailed Itenary

 

Day 1: Travel to Kidepo valley national park.

After having breakfast in the morning, transfer to Kidepo valley national park of which the journey takes like 10-12 hours. The whole journey goes through the famous Luwero and other districts. The drive will continue through the undulating hills of Nakasongola district to Gulu town. The lunch enroute will be in Gulu then proceed to the park. Dinner and overnight will be served at the lodge.

Day 2: Game drive and cultural encounter.

After having breakfast, embark on an early morning game drive along Kidepo park trails. Kidepo national park harbors a great diversity of wildlife species than any other parks in Uganda. The park has 80 mammal species recorded and the 28 are only found in this park. The game drive enables travelers to meet the carnivore species such as caracal, cheetah, hunting dog, bat-eared fox, stripped hyena, aardwolf and many others. Some of the other wildlife to encounter on a game drive include elephants, Burchell’s zebra, bush pigs, warthog, Rothschild giraffe, Cape buffalo, eland, Defassa water buck and many others. Return to the lodge for refreshment and lunch.

In the afternoon, go for a cultural encounter where you experience the life of the Karamojong – the local people living around the park. This activity exposes travelers to the unique traditional dances such as the emuya of naporre, apiti dance and many others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Game drive and Nature walks.

This morning, embark on yet another thrilling game drive along the Kidepo park trails. Kidepo national park harbors a great diversity of wildlife species than any other parks in Uganda. The park has 80 mammal species recorded and the 28 are only found in this park. The game drive enables travelers to meet the carnivore species such as caracal, cheetah, hunting dog, bat-eared fox, stripped hyena, aardwolf and many others.

Some of the other wildlife to encounter on a game drive include elephants, Burchell’s zebra, bush pigs, warthog, Rothschild giraffe, Cape buffalo, eland, Defassa water buck and many others. Return to the lodge for refreshment and lunch.

In the afternoon, go for an evening nature walk and during this activity, go through the Karamojong homesteads known as the Manyattas and kraals to see traditional costumes, stools, spears, headdress and many others. After the nature walk, retire back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Hiking Mount. Morungole.

Embark on the transfer to Morungole Mountain for hiking after breakfast. The hiking offers incredible scenic views to the travelers as well as magical cultural encounters with the indigenous IK people.

Travelers go through the mountains and savannah landscape of the park while hiking and also Narus valley where you can meet a myriad of wildlife and a number of birds. The activity gives you a chance to explore the splendid Kidepo river valley covered by borassus palm forest, the kanangorkok hot springs, the IK people and much more. Retreat to the lodge for late lunch and relax in the evening.

Day 5: Transfer to Murchison Falls National park.

On your transfer to Murchison falls national park, enjoy a scenic drive which traverses through savannah grasslands of Gulu up to the national park. The lunch enroute will be in Gulu town, and proceed thereafter with the journey through Karuma and arriving at the park in the evening. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 6: Game drive and boat cruise.

Wake up and have a very early morning coffee, then head to a morning game drive where you will see some of the big five including lions, buffaloes, leopards, elephants. Antelopes, water bucks, Jackson hartebeest, jackals and giraffes are common sight. The morning game drive will give you a chance to spot the nocturnal animals and the hunters before they return to their hideouts as well as the early risers. After the game drive, you will head to the lodge for mid-morning breakfast.

In the afternoon after lunch, go for the boat cruise along Victoria Nile which is a perfect spot in this park to view lots of wildlife species at a close and clear range. Some of the wildlife that you will spot on a boat cruise include school of hippos, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and others that come to drink water refreshing themselves off the scorching sun and also to enjoy fresh grass along the banks of the river.

You will also spot reptiles like Nile crocodiles and a number of bird spices. The boat goes to the base of Murchison falls and here you get a chance to see the lovely and powerful falls in the world. You can either choose to hike to the top of the falls or return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Kibale forest national park.

Transfer to fort portal after breakfast, the journey takes you through the impressive country side with rural setting and local homesteads dotted all over. After having lunch, you go for a Crater Lake hiking to gain impressive views of various volcanic explosion features in this area. After, visit the Amabere Ga’nyinamwiru caves with the magical Nyakasura River falling over them forming incredible waterfall. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 8: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi wetland tour.

Have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing then after you will enter the forest to start the chimpanzee tracking while following the guide. Kibale national park is among the best primate destinations in Africa, especially chimpanzees.

The park accommodates a number of primates and other wildlife. The moment you meet the chimpanzees while tracking them you are only given an hour to be with them. After tracking the chimpanzee, you will go back to your hotel for lunch.

In the afternoon, go for nature walk at Bigodi wetland where you will get a chance to encounter a number of bird species and mix and mingle with the Bigodi community. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park. Boat cruise in the afternoon.

Wake up and have breakfast, then transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park where you will go through the crater lakes. The journey will reward you with attractive scenic landscapes of the Rwenzori mountain ranges and endless tea plantations.

Upon arrival in the afternoon, immediately head for the boat cruise. A boat cruise on Kazinga channel offers you magnificent encounters with the buffaloes, elephants, hippos, Kobs and many aquatic birds, reptiles and mammals. Still on this boat cruise, you will get a chance to encounter wide array of birds. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 10: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Have an early wake up, before heading on a morning game drive along the Queen’s pavilion plus the Kasenyi trail. And the game drive will enable you view wildlife like elephants, water bucks, lions, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, warthogs and many others. Return to the lodge after the game drive, take breakfast and prepare to transfer to Bwindi national park in the far south.

Bwindi accommodates half of the mountain gorilla population in the world and it has 12 habituated gorilla groups.

On this journey, you may get a chance to spot the tree climbing lions of Ishasha sector which are famous in Queen Elizabeth national park. You will have lunch enroute and proceed to the park thereafter. Have dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 11: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park.

In the morning after breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters for briefing from the park rangers about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas.

Then start the trek within the jungles, the activity involves hiking through the thick forest searching for the mighty apes. And after meeting them, you are only allowed to stay with the gorillas with only one hour then descend to the park headquarters then after to your lodge for refreshment and lunch. You will spend the evening at your lodge.

Day 12: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Sunset boat cruise.

After breakfast, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi the second deepest lake in Africa and it is one of the lakes that are free from bilharzia and safe for swimming.

The drive will reward you with magnificent landscape. Lunch will be at the lodge at the lake and dinner plus overnight.

Undertake a sunset boat cruise to discover the lake’s numerous islands dotted all over the lake.

Day 13: Sunrise canoeing and transfer to Lake Mburo national park.

Transfer to Lake Mburo national park after breakfast, and after a delightful canoe experience. The journey to Lake Mburo takes about 4 hours from Lake Bunyonyi. You enjoy the rolling landscapes of Kigezi and Ntungamo before approaching Mbarara town and Igongo cultural center in Mbarara for a traditional lunch.

Explore the museum and experience all the tribes of south western Uganda at one spot. After proceed to the park.  Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 14: Game walking safari and boat cruise.

After having breakfast, go for a morning game walk which commences at Rwonyo tourism center at 7:00am. During this activity, the ranger guide accompanies the travelers when he is armed. A wide range of wild game is spotted including the recently introduced Giraffes, water bucks, zebras, antelopes and many others on foot.

Walking in the savanna as you see the sun rising, is a truly memorable experience. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This activity will enable you view aquatic life, including crocodiles, hippos, plus birds.

Day 15: Cultural experience and travel to Kampala.

Transfer to Kampala after a magical cultural retreat with the native Banyankole cattle keepers, where you will indulge in activities like milking, reciting traditional songs, traditional means of milk preservation, etc.

The drive to Kampala will reward you with magnificent sights and scenic landscapes. Have a stop at the Equator and have some amazing photos and water experiments that justify the geographical divide between the north and southern hemispheres.

Proceed to Kampala. You will be dropped at your lodge or at the airport to mark the end of 15 days classic wildlife tour in Uganda.
